4. A simple guide to expressing milk
A simple illustrated guide that demonstrates how mums can successfully express breastmilk by hand, hand pumping and electric pumps, as well as providing guidance on how to store expressed breast milk for later. A printed guide that you can give directly to parents, this not only serves as an instructional resource covering the practical methods for expressing breastmilk, but offers helpful advice on where equipment like electric pumps can be obtained. 5. Successful breastfeeding
Whilst breastfeeding is completely natural, it can take a little getting used to and it’s very much about finding a technique that works for both mum and baby. This is a video that you can show to mothers, demonstrating positions and methods for successful breastfeeding — which is ideal for those times when you might not be available to offer them advice. Follow-on milk is only for babies over 6 months, as part of a mixed diet and should not be used as a breastmilk substitute before 6 months. We advise that all formula milks including the decision to start weaning should be made on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist or other professional responsible for maternal and child care. Foods for special medical purposes should only be used under medical supervision.
